Can I Speed Up My Social Security Application?
Claimants for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits are facing record long waits to receive their benefits. Unfortunately, due to a lack of Social Security Administration (SSA) resources, there is not much that can be done to speed up the process. However, there are certain situations – that if they apply to you – have the potential to cut down your wait time.
One such situation is if you have severe financial difficulty and are living with family members or friends, or are forced to live out of your vehicle or in a shelter. If you have such financial restraints, is a way to submit evidence of such hardship and request an expedited hearing.
Wounded veterans are also provided an avenue to have their case expedited, as are Claimants with terminal illnesses or are suicidal.
Given the long process, we always encourage our clients to apply for disability benefits as soon as they are unable to engage in any substantial gainful activity. While we do everything we can to ensure you get the benefits you are entitled to, you can help your case by getting it started sooner rather than later and by making sure you are keeping in touch with your doctors.
If you are disabled and need an advocate to fight for your right to benefits, contact us by phone at (904) 777-7777, or email us using our contact form.
