When Do I Receive Social Security Benefits?

When Do I Receive Social Security Benefits?

Many people try to schedule their bills to coincide with their income so that they are not late in paying their bills and so that their bank accounts are not constantly overdrawn. This can be a difficult maneuver when you receive Social Security benefits, for a variety of reasons. However, one easy way to help you attempt to straighten out your finances on Social Security is to be aware of when you receive benefits each month.

If you receive Social Security Disability, the date you receive benefits depends on your birthdate. If your birthday is in the first ten days of the month, you will receive your benefits on the second Wednesday of each month. If your birthday is between the 11th and 20th of each month, you will receive your monthly payment on the third Wednesday. If your birthday is on the 21st or later in the month, your payment will be made on the fourth Wednesday of the month.

If you receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI), those payments are typically made on the first day of each month. However, if the first of the month is a weekend or holiday, payment will be moved to the first available non-holiday weekday.

If you began receiving Social Security or Social Security and SSI benefits before May 1997, your payments are made on the third day of each month and moving to an earlier date if the third is a weekend or holiday.
