Chiropractics and Workers’ Compensation in Florida
Chiropractic medicine is health care that focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, along with the effects of these disorders upon a person’s general health.
If you had a work accident, it can be possible to see a chiropractor. Chiropractic care can be available through workers’ compensation if your authorized doctor says it is medically necessary and related to your work accident. It can be helpful to discuss if you need it because of your accident with your authorized workers’ compensation urgent care physician or occupational medicine doctor. If you doctor recommends chiropractic care for you, you may receive up to 24 treatments, or 12 weeks from the date of the first chiropractic treatment provided by the workers’ compensation insurance carrier, whichever occurs first. On some occasions, a carrier will voluntarily authorize additional care beyond the initial 12 weeks/first 24 treatments. This initial limitation does not apply to injured workers who suffered catastrophic injuries such as those resulting in spinal cord paralysis, amputation of an extremity, brain damage, severe burns or blindness.
